World's first 40 Gbps WAN emulator

The Netropy 40G is the only WAN emulator capable of simulating 40 Gbps links. The 40G comes with two QSFP 40GbE ports for emulation and can handle an aggregate of 80 Gbps, making it ideal for testing cloud computing, storage replication and synchronization, media asset distribution, telepresence, and other applications that rely on high-speed networks.

In addition simulating a single link up to 40 Gbps, the Netropy 40G can simulate up to fifteen separate WAN links, with packets assigned to the various links by IP address range, VLAN, or any other packet identifier, making it possible to simulate four 10 Gbps links or fifteen lower speed links all within a single 1U-sized device.

For users without an immediate need to simulate 40 Gbps links, a version is also available at a maximum emulation speed of 10 Gbps per WAN link, offering a lower-cost alternative for testing multiple 10 Gbps links and providing an easy upgrade path to 40 Gbps.

The Netropy 40G is configured and managed through an intuitive, browser-based interface for easy operation, or through a comprehensive command line interface for integration with test automation tools.

Easy to Use

The Netropy 40G Network Emulator is quick to install, intuitive to configure, and easy to operate. The Netropy GUI provides the responsiveness of an application with the convenience of a standard web browser.

Multiple Links

The Netropy 40G simulates up to 15 separate WAN links, making it easy to simulate large numbers of gigabit or other high-speed links through a single pair of ports. Packets are assigned to individual links by IP source and destination address range (IPv4 or IPv6), VLAN, MAC address, MPLS label, application port number, or any other packet field.

Bandwidths up to 40 Gbps

Accurately simulate links from 100 bits per second up to 40 Gbps in each direction.

Latency up to 20 sec.

Emulate delay and jitter of 10 seconds or more in each direction, in increments of 0.01 ms, with a constant, normal, exponential, or uniform distribution.

Packet Loss, Corruption, and Outage

Set random, burst, or periodic packet loss, or a bit error rate. Test the effect of data corruption on voice and video applications. Check how applications recover from network outages.

Capture and Replay Live Network Conditions

Record the delay and loss of the live network as they vary second-by-second and replay them through the Netropy emulator in a repeatable test environment.

Replay PCAP Files as Background Traffic

Test how applications run over a congested network without costly traffic generators or a rack full of client machines using Netropy's unique background utilization feature that replays PCAP files as background traffic. Each PCAP stream can replicated to simulate large numbers of users or scaled to adjust the timing and bandwidth usage.

Data Visualization

Graph or download up to 24 hours of throughput and other link statistics to visualize and troubleshoot application performance.

Bridging/Routing

Install each emulation engine as either a bridge or router for easy integration with any test configuration.

QSFP and SFP+ Compatibility

The Netropy 40G comes with two QSFP ports for 40 Gbps connectivity. An SFP+ adapter is also available to connect to 1 Gbps and 10G networks for flexibility to connect to any type of high-speed network.

Automated Testing

Automate testing using the comprehensive command line interface.

User Controls and Security

Use SSL or SSH for secure access to the Netropy interface. Individual users can lock their engine to prevent configuration changes by any other user. Set user passwords on the device or take advantage of an LDAP server.

Unsurpassed Precision

Test with confidence - the high-precision Netropy Emulation Engine ensures accurate and reproducible results.

Self Monitoring

The Netropy Emulation Engine monitors internal processing and buffering resources to guarantee testing validity.

Redundant Power Supply

A modular redundant power supply helps guarantee uninterrupted operation.

Priced Right

Emulate 40 Gbps networks at a fraction of the cost of competing solutions.

With the ability to simulate one 40 Gbps link or up to 15 separate lower speed links, the Netropy 40G has a myriad of uses:

Emulate 40 Gbps Links

The 40G is capable of 40 Gbps bi-directional.

Emulate multi-site networks

Model a full enterprise network of regional, branch, and local offices, telecommuters, and partners, all connected to headquarters or centralized datacenter. The 40G can simulate up to 15 different WAN links to an aggregate of 40 Gbps in each direction.

  • View applications as they will be seen by different end users
  • Verify the operation of application servers with concurrent users

Side-by-side benchmarking

Run separate tests side-by-side to:

  • View the effects of different conditions on application responsiveness
  • Compare products from different vendors
  • Tune application settings
  • Analyze the benefits of acceleration and optimization products

Isolate individual applications

Segregate traffic from individual devices and apply impairments to specific applications
